Landscape Design is a blending of both science and art.

I begin with a thorough site analysis, informed by years of experience in the Bay Area and North Bay terrain – from coastal to hot inland sites, to rocky mountain tops, from urban and suburban to country, from sunlit to shady, from clay to sand to rocky soils. Then, an in-depth conversation with clients gives me insight into their style and taste, vision and dreams, budget and time boundaries. Finally, my creative juices and my hands-on experience and practical nature can blend dream and reality, soil and season, long and short-range objectives, and possibilities of colors, textures, shapes, forms, sounds and spirit.

The science of both horticulture and soils is as important to the design as the art. I see my mission as becoming a partner with the client in learning about the impact of wind and weather and time on their property, as well as the enhanced potential for beauty, comfort and that feeling of “welcome home”. All of these components must be thoroughly and thoughtfully considered and brought together to create a landscape that touches one’s senses and endures the elements of time and place.
